HBD, part of the Henry Boot Group, has commenced with remediation works at Phoenix 10 carried out by John F Hunt Regeneration. Due for completion by autumn 2024, this scheme represents the exciting regeneration of Walsall’s former IMI / James Bridge Copper Works located between Junctions 9 and 10 of the M6, two decades since the operation closed.
HBD acquired the 44 acre industrial wasteland site from Walsall Council and Homes England, which after safely cleaning the site ready for construction, will see the creation of a new 21st century Industrial and Business Park providing up to 1,100 jobs in the area. Modern methods and cutting-edge techniques will be used to deliver a sustainable development with a focus on environmental protection.
The site has a long industrial history as a former copper works and an area used for domestic and commercial waste disposal. John F Hunt will address various issues including groundwater, metals and foundry waste, treatment of mineshaft and areas of ‘made ground’
In-situ cleaning of these materials will be undertaken enabling their re-use on site, therefore reducing heavy vehicle movements.
Grouting, capping and the solidifying of these materials will be employed rendering them safe. Site wide monitoring of air quality, odour and noise levels will be carried out for the duration of the project.
